"People want to do good, but they don't want to do it at the cost of either convenience or choice. We're trying to bring in a food revolution where we change the way we consume things." - Shiv Misra
This week the founder of Kindly, Shiv, was welcomed onto the amazing podcast, Sussex and the City. He discusses all things sustainable - from plastic waste to community focused business. It is an absolute pleasure being welcomed to share our story and how Kindly became a model of sustainable yet convenient shopping. We love being able to spread our mission across the community, hopefully inspiring people to consider how they could live more sustainably - from refills to reusing.
Shiv talks about his story, one of grit, optimism and retail reform, building something sustainable in every sense of the word. From taking over the old HISBE store to juggling a day job in IT and and growing a new model of retail, he explains what independent retailers really need to survive: lower rates, shared logistics, smarter supply chains and genuine support from local government.
With independent businesses struggling to keep their doors open, Shiv talks what the council can do to support the communities entrepreneurs. Could a region built on small business pride use devolution to back its entrepreneurs; the grocers, cafés, makers and market traders who give Sussex its identity?
“We really wanted to redefine the model where we provide the convenience of a local supermarket but we add in the critical component of this refill package free shopping so that's that's really the concept behind Kindly” - Shiv Misra
