Pine kernels or pine nuts are not actually nuts at all. They’re classified as seeds and come from the pine tree that grows around Asia, Europe and other parts of the world. They’re a fantastic source of essential minerals and vitamins and are thought to reduce cholesterol levels.
These little seeds have a sweet a nutty taste which make them great for flavouring foods or eating raw as a salad topper. They can also be ground down to make pesto or cooked into desserts.
